Spay the Strays Clinic Results
On Sunday the Spay the Strays Group completed the first clinic of 2011. It was held in Bejuco and 29 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered. The success of this clinic was due largely to the efforts of Ruth Devora Chen, a Panamanian with the motivation to round up a list of neighborhood pets needing to be sterilized, hosted the clinic, and helped with registration. She is the third Panamanian who has attended one of our clinics and subsequently taken the initiative to get a clinic scheduled in their own community! We were also lucky enough to gain a third vet! Carla Moran recently moved to Gorgona from the City and has volunteered to work with us. Several area residents have already used her services as a vet and have found her to be wonderfully caring. As an added bonus, she speaks fluent English. Carla is currently assisting our other two vets while they show her the special sterilizing techniques that we use.
Many thanks to our enthusiastic volunteers and those who donated! You make our job SO much easier! Please check out the pictures in the Photos section! There are some great ones of your friends and neighbors helping as well as cute ones of kids and pets!
On March 12 and 13, we have scheduled Spay Panama for our annual Blitz. This year we are holding it at the Casa Comunal in Gorgona and we are planning to spay and neuter approximately 200 animals. This is a perfect opportunity for those of you who have workers with pets that need sterilizing. Or any rescued animals are always welcome! Since this Blitz is so huge, mark your calendar because we will need many volunteers – as well as donations. (More on this later…)
