Work To Repair Centennial Bridge Access Road Might Not Be Done Until September

(Panama-Guide) Anyone who thought the work to repair the damage to the roadway leading to the Centennial Bridge was going to be quick and easy was wrong. Engineering calculations show the work that needs to be done is not going to be quick, easy, or inexpensive. While they are working at full speed, and against inclement weather, officials of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) believe that everything could be completed between July and September 2011.

Estimates are that the repairs could cost between $15 to $20 million dollars. According to the engineer Masiel Acosta, the Deputy Director of Inspection for the MOP, the work on the project should advance according to schedule.

"The project could be delayed and the costs might increase due to bad weather. This situation must be taken into account by the company responsible for delivering the work," said Acosta, who inspects progress on the project daily.

There are about 100 people working on this project, including those that deal directly with the piles, reinforcing cages and drivers who work for the company FCC, which is responsible for the work. One of Acosta's goals is to keep them from doing a bad job, and in the end having to spend more money due to irresponsibility. (Mi Diario)
