US Ambassador Meets With New Attorney General in Panama
(Panama-Guide) The U.S. ambassador in Panama, Phyllis M. Powers, reiterated yesterday that the government of the United States is "interested" in that Panama has an "independent and transparent judicial system." The diplomat made a brief statement to the press upon arriving at the office of Panama's Attorney General on Ave.
Peru, where she held an official meeting with the new Attorney General, Jose Ayu Prado. "We came to meet with the Attorney General and to hear his opinions," she said shortly before entering.
The meeting was scheduled for 2:00 pm and she arrived exactly at that time. "We talked about the challenges and goals of the Public Ministry and I think we can help, as we have helped the entire government," he said after the meeting ended.
Powers explained that in the meeting with Ayú Prado they discussed issues linked to organized crime and drug trafficking, the latter generating special concern for the United States.
The ambassador refused to make any statements about the diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks. (La Prensa)
