Tourism Minister Breaks Silence in WikiLeaks Scandal

alt(Panama-Guide) - La Estrella -  Panama's Tourism Minister, Solomon Shamah, has broken his silence. Yesterday he spoke to La Estrella and defended himself against stories that have been published indicating he has been investigated by the Colombian Department of Administrative Security (DAS), as revealed by WikiLeaks in the most recently released classified US State Department cable on a report from the then U.S. Ambassador to Panama, Barbara Stephenson, who mentions him as a suspect for alleged links to drug trafficking. Shamah displayed documents in which the Panamanian Public Ministry certifies he is not being investigated for drug trafficking, and he also does not appear in the Interpol database. Shamah said he does not know where these accusations against him have come from. Shamah traveled to Spain last night, where on Tuesday he will represent the government on a sightseeing tour.
