Panama-US FTA Is A Priority Of The US Chamber of Commerce

alt(Panama-Guide) - La Prensa - The adoption of the free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea will be a priority for the Chamber of Commerce of the United States in 2011, said on Tuesday, the president of that group.

Peter Donahue said in a speech on the outlook for the U.S. economy that the Chamber of Commerce will do what "is necessary to obtain the necessary votes in Congress to ratify the treaties and the government of President Barack Obama must work urgently' 'with Congress on this issue.

"Last year, we heard a lot about expanding trade, but did not see much action.

We have a bipartisan opportunity to change that in 2011,'' said Donahue, referring to the new Republican majority in the lower house in Congress that was installed last week. Donahue was also pleased by the announcement from Washington last week to resolve a long dispute over access by Mexican trucks to U.S. territory and stated that Mexican tariffs have cost 25,000 jobs to the U.S. economy.
