Final Spay the Strays Clinic of 2010
On Sunday the 19th, in Las Lajas, the Spay the Strays Group completed our final clinic of 2010. With the help of Dr. Alexis Escrucerias of the McKee Foundation, Dr. Jorge Velez, and a loyal group of volunteers, we spayed and neutered 43 dogs and cats. The majority of the animals were ones that had been on a waiting list since we held our last clinic there in February! Unfortunately, for several months we were without one of the medicines necessary for operating so clinics had to be postponed. Thus, our total for the year is 296, a little more than half of our normal number of spay and neuters. Since starting in Sora in 2007, Spay the Strays has now sterilized 1,440 animals. We have held four clinics in that pueblo as well as ones in Copecito, San Carlos, San Jose, Gorgona, and Las Lajas. Did you know that if each one of those dogs or cats lived to be six years old that it could theoretically have been responsible for bringing up to 67,000 unwanted offspring into the community? Wow! No wonder we have such a big problem! To prevent these unwanted litters costs only about $20 per animal.
With your help, we can truly make a difference. Unlike many charities that sends you worthless gifts as a “reward” for your contribution, Spay the Strays believes in putting ALL your money towards the mission! You have our guarantee that all donations go towards the expense of funding our clinics. In addition to contributing money, of course you can also donate time and supplies, and support our FUNdraising events. Go to the “Spay the Strays – Panama” Facebook page and “LIKE” it to keep up on all our activities.
YOU are what make Spay the Strays such a success. We are more grateful to all of you than words can ever express. Please check out the photos of our last clinic to see your contributions at work. As 2010 draws to an end, enjoy the holiday season and let’s make 2011 a banner year!
