15% Decrease in Homicides in Panama This Year, 33% More Drugs Seized
(Panama-Guide) - TVN Noticias - The various heads of the security sectors in the Republic of Panama held a press conference this morning to report that as of today there have been 692 homicides in the country this year, or 126 fewer than in 2009 when there were 818. In December 2009 there were 93 homicides, and thus far this here there have been 31. This year, 605 men were killed and 46 females. Security Minister, Jose Raul Mulino, reported an increase in drug seizures. This year they were seized 75 tons, 19 tons more than last year. Drug traffickers are looking for alternate routes to Panama, said Minister Mulino. He also announced they will be using 19 new radar sets to detect and combat drug trafficking. The official also said there is no presence of the FARC in the south of the Darien.
