Electricity Rates Will Remain Stable in Early 2011
(Panama-Guide) - Telemetro - Although the trend is rising, the new rates for electricity in Panama that will take effect starting from January 2011, will remain the same as they are now, said Tuesday the administrator of the National Authority of Public Services, Dennis Moreno. "The rates in general I can tell you will remain the same, we are currently waiting for a bid that ETESA will hold on 6 December 2010 that deals with surpluses, and depending on the prices that we have in this bidding process, we will see what will happen in the first half of 2011, but the projection that we have right now is that the prices will remain stable," said Moreno, who ruled out the possibility of a decrease, "because the trend is for the fuel and construction prices to rise." He further explained that the percentage of the national government subsidy will remain the same, for users who consume up to 500 kwh.
