Panama’s wholesale price jump

If you’ve noticed an increase in what you are paying on your visits to the local supermarket, or are taking home less for more dollars, it’s because price increases are moving down the chain to your wallet.
Panama’s wholesale price index (WPI) increased by 3.7 percent in September, compared to the same month in 2009. Says the National Institute of Statistics and Census The increase in the three sectors that form the foundation of the WPI: imports affected by the weakening US dollar, up 5.8 percent; agriculture 3.3 percent; and industrial 1.3 percent.
INEC's report also confirmed a 1.2 percent increase in the WPI from June to September this year.
