Mudslides Kill Dozens in Costa Rica

alt(Panama-Guide) - La Critica - The worst storm in recent years in Costa Rica has so far left 21 dead, an unknown number of people missing, 1400 refugees and serious material damage, while the government maintains a red alert (maximum) for the Pacific side and central areas of the country. Worst hit was the town of San Antonio de Escazú, on the west side of the capital city of San Jose, where a landslide from a hillside buried an entire neighborhood. Damages to roads have caused about 30 buses carrying Panamanians and tourists, as well as several trucks carrying goods bound for Panama, to become stranded. In Chiriqui it has rained for at least 72 consecutive hours, leading to fears of a repeat of the floods of two years ago.
