Heavy Rains, Floods, High Tides Predicted
(Panama-Guide) - Telemetro - Cloud cells throughout the country warn of continuous rain in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Darien, Veraguas, the Azuero Peninsula, the Eastern part of the province of Panama, the lower coast of the province of Colon, and the Kuna Yala region, according to Emanuel Velásquez, the meteorologist predictor of the Elective Transmission Company SA (Etesa) through RPC Radio. Similarly, the National Civil Protection System issued a warning of high tides as high as 17.8 feet, starting next Sunday, and they advise swimmers to avoid beaches and rivers, and even more so during heavy rain storms. Arturo Alvarado, the Director of SINAPROC, said on Thursday there have been floods in rivers in the Darien province. Alvarado said Hurricane Thomas, currently located in the Caribbean, "is activating the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone," causing rains.
