Protesting High School Students Arrested And Charged With Assault and Destruction of Property

alt(Panama-Guide) - Panama America- Unlike other cases that have occurred in the past, high school students who staged acts of vandalism on Via Israel yesterday afternoon, destroying property and attacking their own classmates, spent the night in custody with the juvenile police. Parents went home last night without their children, and this morning, Thursday, it is expected the Prosecutor of Minors will press charges against the offenders for assault and damage to private property. Yesterday students from the Isabel Herrera Professional School and from the School of Arts and Crafts staged a protest, demanding the payment of a universal scholarship despite not having good enough grades to qualify for this benefit. For their part, the authorities of the Ministry of Education have indicated the students responsible for the damage will be punished. Leading up what might occur on Thursday at the National Institute, where the Universal Scholarships will be presented by the General Director of Education, Raymundo Hurtado Lay, the Dean of the campus was asked to take the necessary measures because they are aware that as of yesterday a small group of dissident students is organizing a street protest.
