One Killed in Landslide, Thirty Homes Affected by Flooding in El Valle
(Panama-Guide) - La Prensa - EL VALLE, Cocle. One person was killed and more than 30 houses were affected by flooding Tuesday afternoon in the area of El Valle in the province of Cocle. Victorina Lorenzo Pérez, about 53 years old, was killed inside her home when it was demolished by a landslide in the area known as Las Mozas, in the neighborhood of Cerro La Cruz. The husband and one of the victim's children, who were also in the house at the time of the collapse, were injured, and they were taken to the Aquilino Tejeira hospital in Penonomé. In the area known as Caña Blanca, in El Valle de Anton, the rising Anton river flooded about 30 homes. In addition, the road leading up to El Valle was blocked by several landslides and fallen trees. Officials of the National Civil Protection System, firemen, police officers, and officials from the Public Ministry worked until dawn Wednesday to recover the body of the woman who was killed.
