Panama slated to earn $12 million from legislators' junket
(newsroompanama.com) A $4 million dollar investment in an upcoming international conference in Panama should generate gains in excess of $12 million says the Chairman of the Legislature.
Over 2,000 legislators from five continents, many suffering under a northern winter, will escape to the sun to attend the 34th Meeting of Parliamentarians, in Panama in April of 2011.
Chairman of the National Assembly, , José Muñoz, said the meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 15-20 and will address key issues such as drug trafficking, gender, and the Millennium Development Goals,.
Muñoz said the five day event, will require an investment of an estimated $4 million, and is expected to generate returns in excess of $12 million for the Panamanian economy. The five-day meeting is being organized by the Inter-parliamentary Union.
