One Irresponsible Driver Causes Evacuation of Banco General Building
(Panama-Guide) - Panama America - One irresponsible driver caused concern and panic among the authorities and and provoked a reaction by the Special Forces units of the National Police, who evacuated the people working in the Banco General building which also houses the offices of the Israeli Embassy in Panama. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Javier Fanuc, told this newspaper (Panama America) that their units conduct a daily perimeter inspection because there is a high-profile embassy in the building, and they discovered a suspicious car that had been parked there from at least 7:00 am. When police officers checked the registration of the vehicle using the handheld "Pele Police" data system, they discovered that the license plate belonged to another vehicle, and inside of the vehicle there was what looked like a gas cylinder.
Following security protocol, the police officers evacuated the building and located the owner of the vehicle, who opened the car, and who admitted that he had put a license plate on this car from another vehicle. It was also found that the gas cylinder in the car is part of the mechanical system that uses light gas. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a police station where he was ticketed for using a license plate that does not belong to his vehicle.
