National Assembly Closes Complaint Against Martin Torrijos

newsnviews2(Panama-Guide) - Panama America - The Credentials Committee of the National Assembly decided yesterday to close a complaint filed against former president Martin Torrijos Espino, as well as others filed against former Supreme Court judges Adan Arnulfo Arjona and Judge Victor Benavides. Rep. Manuel Cohen, the acting president of the Assembly, said the evidence submitted by the plaintiffs was insufficient. He said that most complaints were accompanied by newspaper clippings, when the standard requires the inclusion of summary evidence which would allow for the development of an investigation. There are still another twenty complaints pending before the National Assembly, including those against former President Mireya Moscoso, another against former president Martin Torrijos, several against judges, and even one against Ricardo Martinelli. Although most of the complaints were filed years ago, they are still open and it remains for the commission to review them and to close them permanently.
