Two dead: Metro will bring order to public transportation
(newsroompanama.com) The carnage brought to Panama’s roads by the notorious diablos rojos (red devils) continued this week with two women were killed while crossing the road in Cinco de Mayo on Monday, August 30. On Tuesday the Minister of the Presidency Jimmy Papadimitriu said that he expects the Metro system to bring an end to the "chaos and disorder" in the City's public transportation system.
He said that drivers wishing to work in the Metro system will have to pass tests to qualify for a license.
Papadimitriu said that the government regrets the Monday accident. Witnesses told police that the driver was at fault.
The minister said that drivers who are involved in incidents such as this must be investigated and punished.

The Metro bus sustem will need 2,800 drivers.
Currently, there are 1,700 working in the sector many with unpaid fines, drug and impaired drving convictions and unresearched driving records.
