“Gloria” arrives to help complete clean up the Bay of Panama

(newsroompanama.com)  “Gloria,” has finally arrived in Panama,  and with the giant lady's assistance Panama City sewers and the Bay of Panama will be one step nearer to being cleaned up.

Gloria is the giant tunnel boring machine (TBM) that will be used to build the interceptor tunnel for Panama’s multi million dollar sanitation project serving the city and the Bay of Panama. She arrived at Manzanillo, in Colon. on Tuesday.
The TBM is 177 meters long and 3.6 meters in diameter. The tunnel will be built with precast PVC coated pieces of concrete.

Gloria was official handed over in June at the Herrenknecht factory in Schwanau, Germany, where she got a VIP welcome from representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Japanese company Nippon Koei which is overseeing the project, and staff of the Odebrecht construction company carrying out the work.

The machine was named Gloria in honor of President Martinelli's mother and it is painted with the colors of the Panamanian flag.
