Minors Can Be Held Indefinitely If Charged With Homicide

newsnviews2.jpg(Panama-Guide) - La Critica - The National Assembly approved yesterday in the first debate an amendment to Law No. 40, which would allow for the indefinite detention of minors involved in murders, so that the accused can not argue that the process has been rendered invalid if the investigation is not completed within the term of six to nine months as is required today. The President of the Government Commission, Jorge Alberto Rosas said the term established by the current Law on Criminal Responsibility of Adolescents was being used as an escape route for children to return to the streets to commit crimes.
