Spay the Strays comes to San Jose, April 24 and 25, 2010

Once again, last Saturday and Sunday, Spay the Strays joined forces with Spay Panama to spay and neuter 173 animals during their annual Blitz.  This time it took place in San Jose (on the highway about a mile from Coronado) Despite heat, humidity, and drenching rain, the two groups worked side by side with their loyal and dedicated volunteers  until all waiting animals were accommodated.  Photos from the event can be found below. We would like to thank all of our supporters for their contributions that make these events possible – Marisol and Jerry, Dusty, Al, Deb and Dave, Ken, Kris and Pam, Carole, Max, Rene, Adele, Linda, Ellen, Barb and Darby, Ruth and Charley, Miriam, Cheril, Terry, Rodger, Lou, Suzanne, Geri, Frauke, Steve and Jeanne, Karen, Joyce and Peter and Damani and Ife.  And, of course, we continue to get invaluable support from those pet owners who spoil their dogs by purchasing our dog treats. If, due to a senior moment, anyone has been forgotten, we apologize.

The Spay the Strays Group (Sheila Scott, Linda Murdock, Barb Schlottke and Mary Rhodes) held another clinic in San Jose last October at which time we neutered 80 dogs and cats thanks to the dedicated efforts of Senor Luis Ibarra, a local resident.  He had brought one of his pets to a previous Blitz of ours.  Realizing what a benefit this could be to his own community, he went door to door signing up pets and then convinced us to support him.  Because of his efforts, the town of San Jose has probably attained close to the impossible – control of pet overpopulation.  If we could clone him, we could eventually be out of a job!

So far in 2010 Spay the Strays has held three other “mini” clinics with the help of Dr. Alexis of the McKee Foundation and Dr. Velez (the well known traveling vet).  In Coronado we neutered 11, in Las Lajas it was 44, and two weeks ago we operated on 15 animals in Sora.  Unfortunately, San Jose cost our group more than $3,000 and we must now suspend further clinics until sufficient money has been raised.  We have some FUNdraisers planned for the upcoming months.  Please come out and have a great time and support a great cause so that our work can continue.
