Suspect in Miami shooting found in Panama

newsnviews2.jpg(miamiherald.com) A man suspected of firing multiple shots at another man outside a Biscayne Boulevard restaurant earlier this month has been apprehended in Panama by federal immigration authorities, Miami police said Wednesday.

The suspect, Pablo Guzman, 34, was taken into custody by U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents as he got off a flight originating from CancĂșn, Mexico, on Feb. 11.

The following day, ICE special agents, working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, took Guzman from Panama to the United States to face charges on attempted murder in Miami.

The charges stem from a shooting incident outside Mia at Biscayne lounge, 20 Biscayne Blvd., on Feb. 4 about 4:30 a.m. following an argument between Guzman and Nelson Puente.

Police say Guzman fired ``multiple times'' at Puente, who was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, and survived the attack.

A uniformed Miami police officer, who was working at the restaurant, fired at Guzman, who fled in a black, four-door Mercedes-Benz.
