Panama in Constitutional Crisis Over Attorney General Firing

newsnviews2.jpg(Panama-Guide) By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Yesterday afternoon Panama erupted into what could turn into a significant Constitutional crisis. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 to suspend Attorney General Ana Matilde Gomez from her position. First of all, the Supreme Court simply issued a press release indicating the decision has been made and the votes cast. What remains is the actual publication and formalization of their decision, which will occur next week on Thursday, 4 February 2010. Once Ana Matilde Gomez is formally notified of that decision (she will have to sign the document) then at that moment she is no longer the Attorney General of Panama.
