 – Helicopter emergency air ambulance provider, LifeFlight Panama, today announced their new program covering tourists staying in Panama. The program enables tourists with a valid visa or tourist card the opportunity to buy life flight coverage for stays shorter than 90 days starting at $29.

James Thomson, LifeFlight’s President, said, “We are happy to provide tourists with greater comfort knowing they will have a better chance should something happen during their stay in Panama.” Thomson continued, “When LifeFlight begins operations in the first quarter of 2008, tourists needing emergency medical assistance will have another option besides a local ground-based ambulance to take them back to Panama City.”

Panama is known for excellent medical care within Panama City. However, the ability for the country’s medical system to adequately care for emergency patients is limited outside of the small country’s capital city due to availability of funding.

Until LifeFlight begins operations, transporting patients back to Panama City by ground ambulance is the most common way, which can add hours to a patient receiving emergency care. In some less critical cases, local airlines are used for the trip back to Panama City, though this method is not always desirable due to altitude differences or patient condition.

Tourists will be able to buy coverage online through the company’s website and through LifeFlight’s sales Specialists in Panama.

Pricing for the coverage begins at $29 per person for 30 days.

LifeFlight Panama will be the first dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical and Air Ambulance Service based in Panama City, Republic of Panama. LifeFlight services will be supported by membership subscriptions and a foundation enabling it to fly for humanitarian as well as commercial purposes. LifeFlight will provide a rapid response for those living, working, visiting and travelling in Panama using a Bell LongRanger III helicopter with a range of 300 nautical miles.
