from the Panama-Guide
Panamanian authorities today seized $16,000 from a Spanish citizen at the Tocumen International Airport, near the capital, when he tried to enter the country without declaring the money as required by law, officials said. The seizure took place shortly after the Spaniard, whose name was not released, arrived at Tocumen on a flight from Venezuela, according to a press release from the the National Directorate of Customs. The statement went on to say that upon arrival the Spaniard only declared $10,000 dollars in cash, but when authorities searched his belongings they found an additional $6,000 dollars, bringing the total to $16,000 dollars. The "Traveler's Affidavit" indicates that upon entering Panama people are obliged to declare money or other negotiable instruments for amounts exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent in other currencies. The seized money was sent to the National Bank of Panama to be deposited to the National Treasury account. (Source: DIAaDIA)
