Best wish for the holidays from Spay the Strays
Spay the Strays would like to wish you a great holiday season and thank you for your support during 2009. This was a banner year for us! We had more clinics, a new doctor and lots of new volunteers and supporters. Our total number of animals to date is 1,147. When we finished the last clinic in San Jose we were at 1,144 and thought we were done for the year but then Jamuna arranged for Dr. Valez to spay one of her street cats so we snuck in a puppy and another cat. We are always looking for ways to get another animal included.
During 2008, we were able to sterilize 602 animals, mostly due to several large donations. Although in 2009, we had a marked decline in donations (like most charities), we were still able to spay and neuter 433 dogs and cats through fundraising events. This is now our chief source of income and we truly appreciate your enthusiastic response to these benefits.
In addition to the clinics we also try to find homes for the various cats and dogs, puppies and kittens that people find and befriend. We have had many successful adoptions and I would ask you all to let me know if you hear of any one looking for a pet. I am sure we will be able to find that 'purfect' companion. We currently have two kittens, brother and sister, and a puppy who need homes. Photos of these guys have just been posted on the adoption section of the Wall of Fur on playacommunity.com Look under Groups and Spay the Strays.
Attached is our Christmas photo. Trying to get all our dogs to cooperate was fun and challenging. Unfortunately, Linda, Grayson and Negrita were absent. Please note the tan puppy in the center, he is Carlos and is currently being fostered by Linda and available for adoption.
As soon as we have a date for our first clinic of 2010 (some time in January) we will let you know.
Best wishes,
Mary, Barb, Linda and Sheila
