Salvadoran Artist at Imagen Gallery in Panama
The work of Cesar Menendez, a Salvadoran artist born in 1954, is on display at the Imagen Galeria on Calle 50 in Panama City, one block past El Rey on the left.
This mature artist has about 20 large canvases on display although he was not present at the gala opening Thursday night. The exhibit, entitled "Transitions" brought out a large, well dressed crowd to sip a little wine, discuss art, and be seen with each other.
Menendez's art is mature. His techniques of blending colors remind me slightly of Georgia Okeef but Menendez keeps closer to real life form. Nevertheless his work has a larger than life quality. Transitions is an interesting exhibit and worth a drop by if you are down on Calle 50 just past El Rey on the left.
Besides the Transitions exhibit, Imagen has a nice range of fine art, oils acrylics, and metal and ceramic sculptured items. Everything on display is of a size and type that it would easily grace the wall or corner of a home. A couple of the Menendez works would require a really large wall, however.
