US Domestic Political Adgenda Stalls FTA With Panama

newsnviews2.jpg(Panama-Guide ) By Carlos Estrada Aguilar for La Critica - Panama's Minister of Trade and Industry, Roberto Henriquez, said although the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Panama and the United States tops the list of treaties for ratification by the U.S. Congress, its approval is conditional on the disposal of the domestic agenda of President Barack Obama. "We have to see the first half of 2010 as a window of opportunity, however if in that period the US president presents the FTA to congress for ratification, it still might be delayed until 2011 due to the midterm elections in the congress," he said.
