Breast Cancer Awareness Run 2009 in Panama City
In October as the world put up their Pink Ribbons to encourage hope and support for Breast Cancer. Panama was no exception. From Albrook to Multi Plaza to many of the buildings and hospitals within the city, huge pink ribbons were hanging as Panama did its part to find the cure. One out of every eight women has the chance of developing invasive breast cancer and it does not discriminate. Since 1990 the number of cases that lead to death have significantly decreased which is a direct result of awareness. It is a disease that has affected or will affect each and everyone of us, men included..
This past Sunday 7 women from the Playa Community drove into the city leaving at 5am to participate in a 5km New Balance Run for the Cure, "Carrera de Mujer 2009". Amongst the team was Ileane Kent from Vista Mar who is a Breast Cancer Survivor and who walked the 5km finishing strong and proud. Women from all over Latin and North America came out, dressed in their pink garb and ran down the streets of Panama City because they could. Ileane is a woman who is so incredibly grateful to be alive and to be able to participate in such an event, as there are many women who can't.
In attendance this year were Kathy Kress, Maya Andrus, Ileane Kent, Sarah Booth, Karyn Saunders, Dianne Gordey and Christina Crawford. Thank you, ladies for taking the time to do your part. It is events and participation like this that bring hope and will one day be instrumental in the discovery of the cure for Cancer.
Congrats to the Playa Pink Ladies....You Rock!!!
