Last Edition of the Panama Star
A two year attempt to re-introduce the oldest newspaper in Panama ended last month. The daily Panama Star of the last two years was the eight page English language insert in La Estrella. The original Panama Star was founded in 1849 by Americans on their way to gold rush era California. La Estrella began in 1853 as a Spanish language supplement. The Panama Star continued through the 19th century, merged to become the Star and Herald, which closed prior to the 1989 invasion. La Estrella continued and re-introduced the Panama Star in 2007.
