Friendly Canadian Coffee House in Panama City
The Dolce Coffee House on Via Argentina next to Taco Loco in Panama City is a laid back place to read a book or meet friends over coffee and dessert. Dolce is also a great place to find home style Canadian cooking by the owner, Angel Bakx. Angel has owned the Dolce Coffee House for two years and is planning sit down Thanksgiving Dinners for both the Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct. 12) and the United States version (Nov. 26).
Dolce's gregarious owner, Angel, comes from the Toronto area and sees her cafe as "the people's place." Dolce's many books and "people's wall" attest to the degree to which patrons have become friends at Dolce.
Dolce's "lending library" consists of several book cases holding hundreds of books. The house rule is that you bring in a book in order to take one. The honor system has worked well and Dolce has a steady turnover of reading material. As you enter Dolce the right hand wall is "the people's wall." Shortly after she took over the coffee house someone suggested that Angel Bakx decorate the wall in question. Her response was that "this is the people's wall so go ahead and put something there." The wall is now full of items from all over the world.
Dolce's location a Via Argentia makes it a great place to meet in the city. The location is safe and there is plenty of parking on the street and side street. Dolce has a wide assortment of coffees as well as beer and wine. The pastries are made on the premesis by Angel. The food is Canadian with an assortment of German dishes if that is your preference.
Looking ahead to Thanksgiving Dolce is having both the Canadian and United States varieties on Oct. 12 and Nov. 26 respectively. If you want to skip all of the work of making a big meal consider the Canadian home style cooking at Dolce.
