New Law Would Eliminate ATTT, Merge MOP and ATTT Functions Into New Ministry
(Panama-Guide) By Ereida Prieto-Barreiro for the Panama America - The Cabinet Council voted to eliminate the Ground Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) and to create a new Vice Ministry that will be subordinate to the new Ministry of Road Infrastructure, Traffic and Land Transportation. This comes after the merger of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the ATTT, and just three days after the government decided former ATTT Director Sandra Escorcia "had to go" for opposing the restructuring. This bill will be presented to the National Assembly next week by the Minister of Public Works, Federico Suarez. Meanwhile, transportation users, bus unions, and members of the Board of the Transit Authority declared a "state of alert" before their possible "exclusion" from being able to participate in the decision making process for issues related to public transportation.
