Martinelli Seeking To Change Supreme Court Election Rules
(Panama-Guide) By ELIANA MORALES GIL for La Prensa - The Cabinet Council approved yesterday a bill to amend Article 74 of the Judicial Code, in order to change the ground rules for the election of the board of the Supreme Court. If the National Assembly approves this proposal from the Executive, the election of the President and Vice President of the Panamanian Supreme Court will be held in January, every two years, instead of in October as established by current law. The lawyer and President of the Citizens Freedom Foundation (a chapter of Transparency International), Jorge Molina, believes the President to trying to change the rules so that the two judges who will be appointed in October will be able to participate in the election of the new leadership of the court.
