National Assembly Members Loathe To Cut Their Own Benefits

newsnviews2.jpg(Panama-Guide) By Carlos Anel Cordero for the Panama America - Although the government of President Ricardo Martinelli has promised to reduce the privileges of the National Assembly, many of the Deputies, who are in the majority, refuse to give up their much criticized privileges created and established by their predecessors. The bill which seeks to reduce the benefits, put forward by the President of the National Assembly Jose Luis Varela, lacks the support of a majority of the Deputies of the National Assembly. A subcommittee appointed to study the project and was called to meeting yesterday morning, but they did not meet because the members of the committee failed to show, said committee president Manuel Cohen.
