MP Secretary General Denies Pressure from Martinelli
(Panama-Guide) By Grisel Bethancourt for La Critica - The Secretary General of the Attorney'g General's office, Rigoberto González, denied they are acting under pressure from the Executive branch of government or Ricardo Martinelli in the arrest by the Second Anti Corruption Prosecutor of former Education Minister Belgis Castro for irregularities regarding a contract worth $136,000 for the removal of fiberglass insulation from ten schools in the eastern part of the province of Panama. Castro remains under arrest, and is at the hands of the Supreme Court of Justice, which must decide, under the presentation of Judge Victor Benavides, a request for habeas corpus filed by attorney Carlos Carrillo. According to Rigoberto Gonzalez, is untrue that the prosecution acted under pressure and he said the decision to arrest Castro was taken after he was interrogated, not because someone asked to have him arrested.
