Government Aiming Artillery At Tax Evaders
(Panama-Guide) By ANGEL LÓPEZ GUÍA for La Estrella - According to figures released yesterday by the Comptroller of the Republic, Carlos Vallarino, the government collected $2.792 billion dollars in tax revenue during the first half of 2009, which represents $58.6 million less than the amount collected last year during the same period. To correct this situation, his cousin, the minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alberto Vallarino, reported that during the day today the Cabinet of President Ricardo Martinelli will meet with members of the National Economic Council (CENA) to agree upon a series of measures that will increase tax revenues through mechanisms to put the squeeze on evaders and to "put in their just measure" taxes generated by the productive sectors of the country.
