17 Arrested, Including Gov Officials, In Passport Falsification Ring
(Panama-Guide) By ANA TERESA BENJAMÍN for La Prensa - Four government employees were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in a network devoted to creating falsified ID cards (cédulas), Panamanian passports, and driver's licences. José Ayú Prado, the Superior Organized Crime Prosecutor, said officials from his office raided twelve different locations in Panama City, San Miguelito and Colon, and a total of 17 people were arrested, including Panamanians, Colombians and Dominicans. Of these, four were government employees, one from the Electoral Tribunal, one from the passport office, one from the Public Ministry, and one more from the Direction of Judicial Investigation (DIJ).
