Conditions in DIJ's Temporary Holding Cells are "Subhuman"
(Panama-Guide) By Grisel Bethancourt for La Critica - More than 100 prisoners who are being investigated for various crimes are being held in dismal conditions in the "Transistional System" of the jail cells in the Direction of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) of the National Police, announced the Ombudsman's Office during a visit to the prison yesterday. The Ombudsman considers the detainees are being held in "subhuman" conditions. The Ombudsman, Ricardo Vargas, announced that their delegates received an anonymous complaint alleging lack of medical care for the prisoners, and also noted there are detainees who have been held for more than 30 days on warrants from various judicial authorities.
