Big Pay Cuts For National Assembly Deputies

newsnviews2.jpg(Panama-Guide) By Carlos Estrada Aguilar for La Critica - The President of the National Assembly of Deputies, José Luis Varela, presented today before the full Assembly a bill to reform the internal rules of the Legislature to cut some of the privileges of Members. The reform aims to allow the deputies to keep only those benefits necessary to develop their administrative and community functions. As a first action of the "change" promised by the incoming administration, the Board of Directors of the Assembly reduced the income of the President of the Assembly from $14,000 dollars per month to $10,000 per month, and the salary of the Vice President of the Assembly was reduced from $10,500 per month to $8,500 per month.
