Panama’s medical market to have blood cord banking
(Panama Star) Blood Cord America expands operations to the EU, Aruba, Bermuda and Panama
The marketing arrangement is expected to target hospitals obstetricians and gynecologists in those areas.
Cord Blood will receive revenue from the sale of cord blood processing and storage services sold to each family. Marketing of such services will commence immediately.
Panama, with a population of 3.3 million, has become an international business center in Central America, with a fast growing economy and the highest per capita consumer spending in the region.
Aruba, an affluent island in the southern Caribbean, is overseen by the Netherlands, while Bermuda, a British territory in the North Atlantic, has previously had the world's highest GDP per capita.
Cord Blood America is the parent company of CorCell, which facilitates umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation for expectant parents and their children.
Although money shouldn't be a factor when it comes to saving a child's life, one of the biggest arguments against private cord blood banking is that it is just too expensive for many families.
The controversy centers on varying assessments of the current and future likelihood of successful uses of the stored blood.
