5 accused of plotting to kill DEA agent
(UPI) -- Five reputed Colombian drug traffickers are being held in New York after being arrested in Panama on charges they plotted to kill a U.S. lawman, officials said.
In addition to being accused of plotting to murder a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent stationed in Colombia and a DEA informant, Javier Mauricio Vasquez Saldarriaga, 34, Edgar Abdon Luna Diaz, 47, Pablo Cesar Ruiz Calderon 31, Carlos Alexander Silva Baltan, 31, and Liliana Esperanza Resfa Velez Munoz, 40, also conspired to import methamphetamine into the United States, the U.S. Justice Department said in a news release Friday.
The defendants were arrested in Panama by Panamanian authorities and extradicted to the United States for prosecution on the charges outlined in a complaint unsealed in Manhattan federal court.
