San Carlos Residents Protect Mangrove

The Environmental Impact Center lodged a complain on behalf of two San Carlos residents, Xiomara Armijo and Graciela Pascual, who complained about a proposed housing project in an area of protected mangrove forest. These two San Carlos residents have been trying to protect mangrove forests for a dozen years. Their complaint was heard by the Panama Supreme Court which suspended ANAM's approval of the project. The matter is not resolved. Only the ANAM approval of an environmental impact statement has been suspended. However, the Supreme Court ruliing states the ANAM ignored laws relating to the preservation of ecological systems in granting approval.
