New regulations for investments

President Martin Torrijos admitted that it is necessary to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework in order to attract foreign investment and preserve the competitiveness of Panama as an international and financial services center.

The government will assign a team of experts integrated by the public and private sectors to analyze and propose concrete actions to protect the country from being used for illicit activities of any nature.

The team will also be looking to increase the levels of responsibility and transparency regarding the ownership of limited companies.

Torrijos believes that these two subjects are of paramount importance for all the sectors in the country and it is important for them to reach a consensus on how to tackle the problem.
