Mexican Smuggling $430,000 Arrested in Panama
(laht.com) A Mexican tourist who arrived over the weekend at Tocumen International Airport near Panama City carrying $430,464 in undeclared cash was arrested by Panamanian customs agents, officials said Monday.
Carlos Ignacio Rojas Martinez was arrested Sunday when he tried to smuggle the cash into the country in suitcases with false bottoms.
Rojas Martinez flew into the Central American country from Mexico City, the customs service said.
Panama requires travelers to declare all cash and negotiable instruments valued at more than $10,000 or the equivalent in other currencies.
The cash was transferred to the central bank and will be deposited in the Treasury's account. EFE
