Panama Parties Prepare for Election
(Prensa Latina ) Panamanian political parties are preparing strategies for the forthcoming elections in May in a scenario in which surveys favor Ricardo Martinelli (Cambio Democratico) of the opposition.
This Sunday the incumbent Partido Revolutionario Democratic (PRD) made official a twosome with Balbina Herrera for president and running mate, capital mayor Juan Carlos Navarro.
It was also revealed that that organization would report on the content of the Herrera government program, currently second in recent surveys.
Among the actions is a meeting of the national board of Cambio Democratico questioning Martinelli for the vice presidency.
Studies of expert companies corresponding to the first days of January demonstrate this last candidate with more than 40 percent in voter’s preference.
In the meantime, Herrera ceded positions and distanced more than 10 points behind Martinelli, followed by Juan Carlos Varela (Panamenista) and Guillermo Endara (Vanguardia Moral de la Patria).
According to the PRD party it is revealing that the surveys were done shortly after the choice of Navarro for the vice presidency.
On the other hand, a UNIMER survey demonstrated the PRD candidate with growing rejection among potential voters falling from 33.1 percent in October to 37.6 percent this month.
