Panama, Canada Negotiate Free Trade Deal
Panama (insidecostarica.com) - Representatives of Panama and Canada started today in this capital the second round of negotiations leading to a free trade treaty, said official sources.
The negotiating teams of both nations will focus five-day debates on issues related to market access, customs regulations, rules of origin, mechanisms for the solution of controversies and investment, among other topics.
In statements to the press, the Panamanian minister of Trade and Industries, Gisela Alvarez, said the economic structure of both nations is complementary.
That condition, she added, would allow the northern State to engage in trade transactions with access to different geographic areas of the planet.
On the Panamanian side, specialists from the Ministries of Agricultural Development, Economy and Finances, besides the Superintendency of Banks and the Customs Authority.
Official figures place the two-way trade of both countries in 700 million dollars in 2007, favorable to Canada.
