Panama to Host Parlatino Assembly
Panama, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) will hold its 24th Ordinary Assembly in this capital on December 5-6, to be attended by delegates from 22 countries, according to sources from that legislative body.
Parlatino spokespersons said debates will take place at the building of the National Assembly of Panama, which offered its facilities to hold the meeting.
Parlatino's president, Senator Jorge Pizarro, of Chile, will give the keynote speech at the opening session, at which Panamanian Parliament President Raul Rodriguez will take the floor as well.
The 150 delegates attending the session will debate issues related to the repercussion of the economic and financial crisis in the United States and other Latin American regions, and will analyze poverty and hunger in the region.
They will also debate the situation of Latin American migrants, the European Union's Return Directive, the strategy to counter that measure, and money remittances.
Delegations from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Andean and Central American parliaments will participate in the meeting as guests, as well as observers from the People's National Assembly of the People's Republic of China and representatives of international organizations.
