Panama Leader Visiting Spain

newsnviews2.jpgMadrid, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) Panama President Martin Torrijos initiated Sunday a three-day official visit to Madrid, Spain, invited by the Kings of Spain Juan Carlos and Sofia.


The President of the Central American country is scheduled to meet with the Monarch, and with Spanish government Leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Tuesday.

 

He will also meet with leaders of the Spanish Confederation of the employers´ organizations, of Madrid City Council, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

 

According to Panama sources, one of the issues Torrijos will tackle during conversations are related with the hope of removing Panama from the Spanish list of countries considered as a tax heaven.

 

The possible participation of companies of Spain in the construction of a new lock system for the Panama Canal, estimated at five billion dollars is another point to mention there.

 

The President is accompanied by his wife Vivian Fernandez, Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro, Vice Minister Carlos Garcia, and the national secretary of Science and Technology Julio Escobar.
