The Coronado Beach RC Flying Club

The RC Flying Club is an activity-focused group, new to the Coronado area. RC flying is the flying of a remote controlled model aircraft or helicopter. George Thomsen, the coordinator of the group, is a retired pilot with over 38000 hours of in-flight experience. His love for flying, along with an urge to continue flying after retirement, is what drove him to create the Coronado Beach RC Flying Club. Every Sunday, at 7:00 a.m, if the winds co-operate, flying enthusiasts of all ages gather at the Coronado Equestrian Center to fly their aircrafts in the open field. The group meets early in the morning, as this is when the winds are the calmest.

The RC Flying Club in Coronado is currently made up of about a dozen members. Some are experienced flyers with their own planes, while others are just learning. George offers free lessons to those who are new to hobby flying. “We have everything from small prop aircrafts to larger Fan Jet models flying,” says George. There are no membership fees, just show up and fly!

George is also knowledgeable about the RC Kits available in Panama. So, if you are seeking a trainer package or even an advanced set-up George can point you in the right direction.
