Craig Weincek is writing a novel on line. This work in
progress is entitled Casco Viejo: The
Second Season, and is obviously set in the old section of Panama City also
known as Casco Antiquo, where Weincek has an apartment with his wife Betty and
their rescued dog Lola. The Weinceks also have a house in Altos del Maria,
where Craig does most of his writing.
“I
really don’t know how it will turn out,” Weincek said recently, “but I’m trying
to stick with ‘the creative process’ and let the characters develop naturally inspired
by the setting, situations and what seems likely to happen next.”
Weincek,
who is retired , was a professor of English and Communications at a Maryland
community college; and for 25 years wrote movie reviews for a variety of
newspapers and appeared on local television for 13 years. He also spent part of
his career as a managing editor of a weekly newspaper and before that as a
sports editor.
Currently,
Weincek is a frequent contributor to The
Visitor/El Visitante, the leading tourist newspaper in Panama. Weincek has
had one novel published previously, titled The
Perfect Game. This baseball book about a pitcher who achieves “too much”
success, is virtually out of print, but can possibly still be found on Amanzon.
So far,
Weincek has published three chapters on his blog site and hopes to continue at
a pace of a new chapter every two or three weeks.
“I hope
I can keep it up,” Weincek said. “Putting it on a blog gives me motivation.
It’s funny a number of people have said ‘well, this is a good thing to help
keep you busy in retirement.’ I hope it becomes more than that; but so far I’m
enjoying sharing the experience.”
