Emergency foster or Adoption: Meet MUFFY! PDF Print E-mail
Panama News - Cats and Dogs

Muffy-cute-dog-needing-foster-home-adoptionMuffy's foster parents had to leave suddenly for health reasons and she  is patiently waiting for her forever home!
Muffy is around 9 months old and will be medium size when fully grown. She has lot of energy, loves people and other dogs. We believe she will do very well with children. Remember a pet is the best defense against intruders.

How wonderful to adopt a dog that already has training! On command she will sit and shake hands, loves long walks.. She is housebroken, spayed and ready to be adopted by her forever family.

If you are unsure if you are ready to commit to the responsibility of a dog, perhaps you could foster a dog for awhile and see if it fits into your life.

Ed Moynan is Missing PDF Print E-mail
Coronado - Coronado News

ed moynanEd Moynan has been missing since November 8, 2012. His family has been in contact with the police and have checked hospitals without any results. Ed's wife, Louise is returning to Panama from Canada tomorrow, Monday November 12. Ed has a house in Coronado. It appears he left the house between 11:00 pm and midnight with the car. He was driving a rental car automatic, Grey, Kia Ria - Lic. 975349. He was in the city on Wednesday to drop his own car off at a mechanic. He then picked up the rental car to come back to Coronado.

Ed was with a friend on Thursday November 8, who left at 11:00.  The house was left unlocked. Nothing was stolen, the laptop was still there, his watch on the table, and his wallet was in the desk. It seems that he left the house quickly.

We have been advised that it was not unusual for Ed to leave his wallet, as he often took some cash and a bank card when he left. His bank card has not been used.

Ed has a sister, Ruth  who lives in Decameron. Ed took second place in the 2012 Chilli Cook Off in Coronado as part of the 'Salt n Peppa' team.

If anyone has any information about Ed's whereabouts, please contact Ed's sister Ruth at 6713-7215.  Click 'Read More' for a copy of Ed's passport.

Gorgona Neighborhood Watch Update PDF Print E-mail
Panama News - Community News

altProgress continues in Gorgona to create a new neighborhood watch program – Vecinos Vigilantes.

Led by Gorgona homeowner Jim Rizik, the group is in the process of establishing a board to coordinate and fundraise for the resources necessary to implement the Vecinos Vigilantes program.  Additionally, Jim, along with the police, is reaching out to all Gorgona residents, not just the expats.

On October 31st, the group held a meeting specifically for the local Panamanians at the community center in Gorgona.  More than 20 locals attended, as well as five police officers, including Major Barsallo who had previously led the community meeting at LaRuina.

According to Rizik, there are several Panamanians interested in serving on the board.

Fun at the Annual CASA Craft Fair in Coronado PDF Print E-mail
Panama News - Community News

craft fair thumbThe Coronado and Area Social Association (CASA) held their 5th Annual Craft Fair last weekend, in the food court level at Coronado Mall. The fair is an opportunity for the area's small vendors to show their products, and for shoppers to pick up unique items in time for Christmas. This year, as last, there were many jewelry makers offering one-of-a-kind items. As usual the baked goods from profitable and charitable groups was superb. A deliciously unusual baked offering was 'Bacon Chocolate Chip Biscotti' by bakers TC and Connie.

In addition, the fair saw quilting, party supply rentals, handmade soaps and cosmetics, mold eliminators, senior co-housing, tie dye t-shirts, painters, artists and even orchid growers.

The CASA fair has been organized by Louise Belisle since it's inception. Louise, is President of the CASA group this year. CASA is a non profit group which raises money each year for Christmas baskets that are distributed to handicapped children of poor families, who live in the interior. Apart from the Craft Fair, CASA hosts a number of other events through out the year, such as a Christmas Dance and a Beach Picnic.

For the past four years, the fair has been held at the Coronado Equestrian Center. I asked Louise what changed this year. "The Equestrian Center was closed earlier this year, when we were looking for places to hold the event. Venues are few and far between that will allow the space for 40 vendors, with proper customer circulation, parking, ventilation and easy access. I think, if we can do it again next year the Coronado Mall would be great choice".

Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Bad Sectors And How to Avoid and Repair Them PDF Print E-mail
Panama News - Useful Information

Hard-driveOften, when computers come in to us for repair, we find failure of the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) to be a common culprit.  Although there can be many reasons for HDD failure, more often than not, HDD failure is caused by having too many bad sectors.  But when we attempt to explain this problem to our customers in layman’s terms (as compared to “Geekineese,”), we usually end up getting the “Deer-In-The-Headlights” stare.  So, in the interest of better explaining what bad sectors are (as well as how to avoid them), I’ve included a reprint of an article by Liz Cornwell of Auslogics, which is an Award-Winning Computer Maintenance company in Sydney, Australia.

What Is a Bad Sector and How Can I Repair It?

The corporation formation is still underway - it seems our RUK is caught up in the corporation registration fraud scandal in The City - according to the newspapers and our lawyer, tellers at The National Bank were taking the corporate registration fees and issuing fake receipts - and not registering the companies. Now Yasser (Alexis) Williams - who donated his services to register the theatre company - has had to pay the fees again and sue the bank clerks personally to get the fees back. Only in Panama.
